About

I believe chromatography should be accessible to everybody: easy, affordable, and portable.

David J. Cocovi-Solberg, founder

I have spent 15 years specializing in microfluidics for the automation of chemistry laboratories, the pumps and valves behind modern analytical instruments. My PhD and postdoctoral research, most recently as a Lise Meitner fellow at BOKU University in Vienna, focused on automatic systems for chemical analysis, with an emphasis on miniaturization, environmental analysis, and biomimetic testing.

Working with brilliant collaborators, we developed and applied Flow Injection Analysis, Sequential Injection Analysis, and Lab-on-Valve systems, most often as a front end to ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and HPLC instrumentation. We designed, built, and validated our own actuators, detectors, control electronics, and control software ourselves, covering the full workflow from concept to validated results. That work is documented in 25 scientific papers, 75 conference presentations, and 1 patent.

PalmChrom is the outcome of that research: merging Bead Injection and Sequential Injection Chromatography into a portable HPLC with integrated sample preparation. Light enough to take into the field. Simple enough to need no extensive training. Connected, so you can deploy it and receive your data in real time, wherever you are.
